Stitch a little bit of history with a motif taken from a Napoleonic goldwork coat.

I was recently commissioned to design and embroider goldwork samples for a replica Napoleonic military dress coat dating from the early 1800s. This was picked up by the BBC and I was interviewed on the radio, broadcast on the news and featured on the Must See section of the BBC News website. The article can be viewed here.

Due to popular demand, I am now running a short course over three mornings (UK time) looking at the leaf motif from the design. The sessions will cover embroidering up to three leaves, with stems, then embellishing them with cutwork and spangles. Each leaf in the original design is extremely small, however for the purposes of this class, the leaves will be increased in size to make stitching them slightly easier. You will be able to see close ups of my work throughout each session. This is aimed at those who have some prior knowledge of goldwork,

or who are confident with a needle. Please contact me if you're unsure.

The Kit: will be sent out in plenty of time for the start of the course and will include fabric with the design already transferred, metal threads, sewing thread, padding, needles and beeswax as well as full instructions with a diagram. Bookings will close two weeks prior to the course start date to allow for domestic postage. Please advise me if you're not in the UK to allow sufficient time for international postage.

You Will Need: a fine pair of embroidery scissors suitable for goldwork and (ideally) a hands free embroidery hoop. If not hands free, please instead secure a loose embroidery hoop by placing heavy books on the top edge to temporarily fix it into place and allow both hands to be free. You may also find a magnifier, needle threader, velvet board/bead board and light useful.

Please download Zoom & Whatsapp.

I will be using Zoom, so please have this already downloaded to your device.

A link will be sent out to you - there is a separate link for each session.

I also find Whatsapp helpful as it enables students to share detailed images of their work for me to see, and so I will add all participants to a dedicated Whatsapp group for this short course. You will be able to leave the group at any time. Please download Whatsapp to your phone or tablet prior to the course to enable the taking and sharing of images. I will disband the Whatsapp group one week after the final session.

Refunds:

Refunds will be given in full, minus any Eventbrite booking fee, up to the point when the kit has been sent. This is two weeks prior to the first session for the UK and four weeks for outside of the UK. After the kit has been sent, and up to one week prior to the first session, a refund will be given, minus kit and Eventbrite booking fee. One week prior to the first session, no refund will be given.
