'Stitching With Liz & Helen' is a collaboration between two Royal School of Needlework tutors, Liz Tapper & Helen Jones (www.stitchwork.co.uk), to bring the art of needlework to Exeter. We aim to provide classes in a range of techniques and for varying skill levels. Please do get in touch if there's a particular course you would like to see listed.
Opus anglicanum is one of the oldest forms of embroidery we have and comes from a period in history when England's embroiderers were renowned for their beautiful work. Frequently used on ecclesiastical garments, the classic stitches include underside couching of gold thread and delicate split stitching in silk floss to create subtle shading or contours. This period of 'English work' came to an end when the Black Death swept through the country, killing many of the skilled artisans. Suitable for all levels.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You will need to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames on the day.
Please bring a magnifier and light (if needed).
Choice of two kits.
This class will run from 10am-4pm at Exeter Community Centre, 17 St. David's Hill, Exeter EX4 3RG
