Soft string padding, also known as bumpf.

Used for padding elongated or curved shapes in goldwork.

To use, cut a length of string approximately 5cm longer than the shape to be padded. Continue to add identical lengths of string to the first piece until, when placed on the widest part of the padded area, the string fills the area as well as creating a mound.  Wax the string as a whole clump. Using a double waxed sewing thread, start couching over the string at the widest area, working up one side of the shape before working the other side.&n
